✧ Who We Are ✧
So what happens when you take a broadway dancer, a health coach, and a licensed clinical social worker, add three yoga certifications, lived experience and combine it with passion and purpose? Magic. And GWG was born.

Alana
Hi, I’m Alana — co-founder of Girls Who Grieve, wife, daughter, sister, yoga teacher, and wellness-obsessed human.
I love a fresh-pressed juice and an iced matcha latte with almond milk just as much as I love fries and a good slice of pizza. I try to live intuitively and give my body what it needs — sometimes that’s ice cream, and sometimes it’s a long meditation session.
By day, I work in marketing and advertising, but my true
passion lies in helping others live healthier, more mindful lives — which is one of the core pillars of The Girls Who Grieve.
GWG was born from my personal experience with grief. I was a true daddy’s girl — he was my best friend. In February 2021, he passed away, and it was the most painful and isolating time of my life. I struggled with grief, intense anxiety, and panic disorder. Even though I was surrounded by people, I felt completely alone. No one my age seemed to be talking about grief, and I felt lost.
I worked hard — both individually and with professional support to pull myself out of that spiral. And eventually, I did. Through that process, I realized how essential it is to have support from people who truly understand the heartbreak of loss. With help from two of the best people I know, The Girls Who Grieve was born.
The Girls Who Grieve is built on the four pillars that helped me through my own healing journey: community, movement, mindfulness, and therapist-led discussions. It’s a space for connection, compassion, and healing — because no one should have to grieve alone. -

Jess
Hi, I’m Jess — one of the founders of The Girls Who Grieve and a licensed clinical social worker. My work lives at the intersection of pain and possibility — I support women healing from trauma through my private practice, @sorellatherapy. I earned my MSW from Columbia University, currently teach as an adjunct at Wagner College, work with teens at a high school on Staten Island, and have spent years building spaces for survivors to feel seen, whether it’s through a sexual assault response program or a meditation session.
But The Girls Who Grieve holds a special corner of my heart. Creating this space — alongside two of my best friends — has been one of the most soul-affirming things I’ve ever done. Here, grief isn’t rushed or silenced. It’s honored, witnessed, and held.
I’m also a yoga and meditation teacher, a Broadway nerd to the core, and married to my high school sweetheart, living in Brooklyn. I believe in healing with heart, in community with others, and always with a little humor tucked in along the way.
I’m so glad you’re here. 🤍 -

Brittany
Hi, I’m Brittany — Broadway performer, Associate Choreographer, educator, yoga teacher, and one of the co-founders of The Girls Who Grieve.
Born and raised New Yorker and a graduate of Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts (The Fame School), I continued my training at The American Musical and Dramatic Academy before earning my BFA in Musical Theatre from The New School.
Since landing my first professional job at 17, I’ve been fortunate to perform on Broadway, in national tours, on television, at prestigious regional theaters, and even on a cruise ship. I’ve also worked on the creative side as a restager and associate choreographer, where I found a deep love for mentorship and the behind-the-scenes process of building a show.
Along with my extensive dance background, I’m a 200-hour certified yoga teacher and passionate about teaching —whether it’s leading masterclasses, private coaching, or movement-based healing sessions. I strive to create safe, encouraging spaces where students and clients feel supported, empowered, and seen. My work is rooted in presence, purpose, and connection.
In 2019, my world shifted when I lost my dad suddenly to a heart attack. He was only 53. I was in my 20s, newly engaged and planning a wedding, all while performing eight shows a week, and quietly carrying a kind of grief that few people around me could understand. That loss became the seed for The Girls Who Grieve, my heart project.
GWG was built alongside two women I love and trust. It is a community born from heartache, healing, and the belief that grief deserves space, not silence. In this space, we honor what hurts, what heals, and what still lingers. Grief reshaped how I show up in the world: as a teacher, a creative, a friend, family member, and to my community.
When I’m not working, you can find me fully present with my beautiful daughter, Tommie Bea- who is my whole world! ♡
